What to expect:
You'll meet Captain Solomon at The Crab Shack restaurant on Tybee Island. There will be a brief safety brief before embarking.
Once underway from the dock at the Crab Shack we will head out of Chimney Creek to Tybee Creek. From there depending on the day routes vary.
Timing and Tides are key but the route matters just as much. Some days the tide height limits our options, on extremely low days could it could be a 5ft high tide two weeks later it could be 10ft(with the help of the wind.)
The route matters!
Our goal is to see as much of Little Tybee as possible! So here is the challenge and fun navigating this seemingly end less maze of tiny tidal creeks. But To keep it interesting a looped route is the goal, covering 18-20 miles through the Salt Marsh Estuary it feels like a kaleidoscope of little salt islands 27-80 Islands? (no one can agree how many there are;)
Little Tybee then is not really little? It is nearly twice the size of Tybee so, how did Little Tybee Island Get Its Name?
At the Heart of what was once The Savannah River Delta is Little Tybee. If you zoom out enough you will see what looks like the roots of a majestic old tree stretching 24 miles from Hilton Head SC to Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge, This salt marsh estuary one of the largest in the world.
As we make the journey meandering through the rivers, creeks and marshes keep your eyes open for local wildlife. Dolphins, fish, sea turtles and more feel the waters beneath your feet.
After a short trip 30-45 minutes, you'll arrive at one of the many remote beaches of Little Tybee Island. On a good day we may have a beautiful stretch of remote beach to ourselves for enjoyment. Sit back, take in the sun, or explore a stretch of beach to soak up the serenity.
Time on the beach for a 3hr trip is about 1.5 hrs. Again depending on way the tides allow and your adventure levels options vary. Sometimes just being on the beach is all you need. For folk who like to explore we encourage one of our A to B options to enjoy from .5-2.25miles. A to B is just a more fun way to see more, instead of just walking out 30 minutes and following your foot steps back to the boat.
After a couple hours we will start making our way back to the dock at The Crab Shack where you'll leave with an experience only a few others can say they've had. Ready to board?
